Novosti-Azerbaijan reports that the State Veterinary Service under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture undertakes due measures to prevent the spread of African swine fever virus in Nij village of Gabala.

The due information was provided by chief of the service Ismail Gasanov during a press conference.

"In order to prevent virus spread quarantine was declared in Nij village. It is prohibited to enter and leave the village. The both healthy and infected swines are terminated there as the said virus does not have a treatment. 115 pigs have been killed so far", Gasanov announced.

He also added that the African swine fever virus was revealed in Azerbaijan on January 28.

"Blood samples of pigs, bred in this country, were examined in the State Laboratory of the Veterinary Service. The results showed the presence of the African swine fever virus in blood", he noted.

According to Gasanov, the veterinary service carried out anti-epidemic and sanitary-enlightening works in this village.

The chief of the veterinary service also noted that the virus has possibly came from Georgia, where the African swine fever was revealed in May of 2007.
