Timeline for the Downfall of Vito Fossella - Gives up office

April 30: He's busted in Alexandria, Va., for drunken driving.

May 3: Two days after Fossella apologizes, the Daily News reports that a "mystery woman" named Laura Fay picked him up from jail.

May 4: Fay is identified as a retired Air Force colonel with a 3-year-old daughter who lives 3 miles from where Fossella was arrested.

May 5: A Fossella spokeswoman refuses to say if Fay's daughter is the congressman's love child, calling the question "demeaning and highly inappropriate."

May 6: The News obtains exclusive details about Fossella's wild night out drinking in Washington before his arrest. A waiter reveals Fossella and a falling-down-drunk friend were "incapable of driving" when they were tossed out of the bar.

May 7: Fossella, the married father of three, admits he had a longtime secret affair with Fay and fathered her daughter. Fay learns Fossella lied when he told her that he was separated.
