TORONTO - A major section of Toronto's subway system was shut down Thursday after a 19-year-old man was shot on a downtown subway platform in what police called a dispute among a group of men. Transit officials cordoned off the area as police investigated the shooting that sent the victim to hospital in critical condition. Police said a "person of interest" is in custody but weren't calling that person a suspect.
There were no other injuries in the incident, which occurred on the Osgoode subway platform at about 10:45 a.m., said Supt. Hugh Ferguson. The station is near several courthouses and the city's opera house. The shooting occurred after a dispute among a group of males who exited a train together at the platform, Ferguson said. It wasn't immediately known how many other people were on the platform at the time.
