Hurricane Faye Update August 18, 2008

The City of Marco Island is included in the hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning that has been issued. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions are likely within the next 24 hours.

This morning Fay is coming off of Cuba. It appears from the forecast discussion that there has been an easterly shift. Some of the models place it right up the center of the state. The main model still puts it up the west coast. In any case we will still be impacted tomorrow.

The storm has also slowed and the impact time has been pushed later. There is positive news that the tidal surge estimates keep going down and the strengthening factor is staying weak. Marco Island should anticipate deteriorating weather conditions starting this afternoon.

Individuals that resident in homes that are low lying and mobile homes should consider evacuation no later than early Monday afternoon. City leaders will be attending the Board of County Commissioner’s meeting this morning and will be updating this bulletin at noon.

Resident Notices:

• There will be NO commercial garbage pick up on Marco Island tomorrow.

• The early election offices on Marco Island have been suspended until after the storm passes.

• The weekly Tuesday fingerprinting at the Marco Island Police Department has been suspended and will resume next Tuesday.
