Vampire Bats Suspected of Killing at least 28 near Venezuela

At least 28 Warao Indians died from rabies near Venezuela’s Caracas. Doctors believe they got the rabies from vampire bats, CNN reported.

Although it has not yet been determined what exactly gave the Indians rabies, it is believed that vampire bats are responsible. There are many of those in that area. Medical services are setting up mosquito nets to prevent bat bites.

Experts explain that the reason why bats are venturing into settlements is because their natural habitats are being destroyed. They are very adaptable creatures, but also bite due to fear.

The most endangered are tribes because hospitals are too far away, the residents are unfamiliar with technology and therefore they die more often. In the village of Mukubiona as many as 80 children died of rabies.
